Michael Szelest competed in two Student Steel Bridge Competitions. An opportunity in which students are invited to extend their classroom knowledge to a practical, hands-on project, the competition required participants to design and construct fully functional steel bridges subjected to strict standards and guidelines.
At UMass Lowell, Michael Szelest was also Treasurer for the Engineers for Change student organization. Engineers for Change at UMass Lowell developed a rapid-response drone that was used to deliver medical supplies to remote locations in Haiti.
