Nyssa Duarte has always known that she wanted to pursue a career that would offer her the chance to help other people. Setting her sights on the healthcare field, pursuing her Registered Nurse (RN) designation was a natural first step. Duarte actively participated in numerous student-led organizations throughout her studies, including MAES STEM Club and the Multicultural Club. Both of these organizations fostered Duarte’s budding interest in holistic health & wellness. Taking a page from the books of her peers and the perspectives they shared, the training nurse developed a passion for herbal medicine and medicinal botany. Duarte RN is now pursuing a professional focus in Complementary & Alternative Medicine (CAM), which she looks forward to expanding her expertise in. In addition to her membership in on-campus clubs, Duarte also maintained affiliations with Alpha Kappa Honors Society and the Massachusetts Commonwealth Honors Program, in recognition of her academic excellence.
Professional Experience
In the process of completing her nursing training and education, Nyssa Duarte took on numerous internships. These experiences offered Duarte a hands-on opportunity to gain expertise in real-world clinical settings. Along the way, she worked as a Student Nurse at Courtyard Nursing and Rehabilitation, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Winchester Hospital and Mount Auburn Hospital. Duarte also took on an internship at the Harvard Research Rahmed Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital. In this role, the training nurse performed research on multi-host bacterial pathogens, anti virulence and host therapeutics of the bacterial pathogen pseudomonas aeruginosa.
