Frank Mechaly is a French designer of premium denim brands, including 575 DENIM and RockStar Denim.
Frank Mechaly is best known for creating and founding 575 DENIM / May75, RockStar Denim, and Culture Couture. Frank is a third generation premium denim designer, following in the creative footsteps of his grandfather and father.
Family History
Levi’s and MacKeen
The Mechaly roots in the denim trade run deep. In the 1950s, Frank’s grandfather was a leading importer of Levi’s jeans in Morocco. Immersed in the industry early on, his father, David Mechaly naturally followed suit with a career in denim. Though rather than following directly in his father’s footsteps, David embraced a more creative path with the launch of MacKeen. Going his own way, the French denim designer was the original creator and manufacturer of the brand. A truly iconic brand of the 1970s, David’s original designs for MacKeen jeans were worn by the original cast of Charlie’s Angels.
Vintage Clothing Curation
After leaving school at the age of 15, Frank Mechaly embarked on his own journey in retail. Initially, Frank worked as a salesperson in clothing stores in the St. Tropez area of France. It wasn’t long however before he deviated from the fast fashion sphere and into the vintage clothing resale market. Frank’s curation of vintage pieces largely consisted of Levi’s jeans. The interest quickly gained momentum, resulting in the launch of a vintage clothing store. An art in itself, the shop operated with a hand-picked style of curation and care (including wash and repair).
575 DENIM
Founder and Creator
Inspired by vintage denim designs, 575 DENIM embodies the soul of style. The brand’s unique distressing techniques added a flare of creativity to the ripped jeans look. Manufactured in-house with the finest fabrics from Italy and Japan, 575 maintained an old school style of craftsmanship and quality. Even out of production, Frank Mechaly’s original premium denim brand continues to be sought after by fashion enthusiasts in the vintage market.
